Diversity Celebration #6 – The Essence of Empathic Communication
On 21 May 2026, the Entrepreneurship Centre in Piaseczno hosted another Diversity Celebration event organised within the RO(O)TATION project, promoting sustainable labour market integration of long-term unemployed people through financial education and psychotherapeutic support.
The workshop brought together long-term unemployed participants, including autistic individuals, representatives of organisations supporting neurodiverse people, HR professionals and labour market stakeholders. The main objective was to strengthen empathic communication skills and create a safe environment for dialogue, cooperation and mutual understanding.
Participants were introduced to the principles of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) developed by Marshall Rosenberg and practised techniques of active listening, recognising emotions and needs, and expressing themselves without judgement or criticism. The sessions highlighted how empathy can become a practical tool for building healthy workplace relationships and inclusive organisational cultures.
The programme included interactive exercises, pair work, moderated discussions and elements of group psychotherapy designed to improve participants’ wellbeing and self-confidence. Practical activities demonstrated how empathic communication can reduce stereotypes, strengthen cooperation between employers and employees and facilitate labour market inclusion of neurodiverse individuals.
An inspiring addition to the event was a small exhibition of paintings created by Dmytro, one of the project participants and founder of the “Step Forward – Ukraine” Foundation. Through his artwork he expresses emotions connected with the ongoing situation in Ukraine, encouraging reflection on resilience, identity and human experience.
The meeting demonstrated that empathic communication is not only an interpersonal skill but also an important competence for building inclusive workplaces where diversity is recognised as a strength and every individual has the opportunity to develop their potential.
